dataCollectionFailed Notification

Bruce Allison

Hi,

I’m replacing a faithful v12 onms with v19

I’m struggling with binding

event

<uei>uei.opennms.org/nodes/dataCollectionFailed</uei>

to a notification in either the gui or by hand.

Did I miss a memo?

Thanks, Bruce

Re: dataCollectionFailed Notification

Bruce Allison

I’ll provide a little more detail as to what I’ve tried

Using the ‘noticeWizard’ the <uei> is not available as if it is actively excluded.

If I define a <notification> in notifications.xml by hand,

the ‘noticewizard’ will exit with a java exception ‘org.exolab.castor.xml.ValidationException’

Is there an alternate method to send a notification when ‘ data collection’ is failing ?

Thank You

Re: dataCollectionFailed Notification

John Blake
I've never noticed that that particular one in not being displayed.
I think since data collection probably relies on a service, the notification is usually tied to the service dropping.

But, I'm on 18.0.2-1 and while that uei is not available thru the initial notifications gui, I can go to;
"Home" - then choose "Status" menu option, then "Events".
Do an "Advanced search" using the "Event Text contains" area and put in  "data collection for".
It shows all those ueis for data collection. From one of those I can pick it and configure notifications for it.
Or its at least giving me the options. I havent tried to actually implement it from there.

Re: dataCollectionFailed Notification

Bruce Allison

I was excited for a moment … alas

Clicking the ‘Edit notifications for event’

Summons ‘notification/noticeWizard/notificationWizard’ which ends with java exception

Thanks for trying John

Re: SOLVED: dataCollectionFailed Notification

Bruce Allison

I needed to toggle the ‘auto-clean’ to ‘false’ in the event definition

Thank You
